Topic of the Month
Wear of cylinder liners, crankpin and main bearings, due to an insufficient insulation of a measuring instrument.
Cause and effect
An insufficient insulation of a measuring instrument generated a voltage difference between the engine block and the turning crankshaft.
Due to this spark generation occurs between the bearings and the crankshaft.
Small metal particles from the bearings and the crankshaft caused wear of the crankpin and crankshaft bearings and also the crankshaft and cylinder liners showed wear and tear.
All bearings have to be renewed, the crankshaft has to be dismounted, cleaned, polished and aligned. Due to this all the cylinder heads and pistons with piston rods have to be dismounted.
A total reconditioning of the engine!
All measuring instruments of the engine and also of the other engines have to be checked for insufficient insulation.
